about
Hello and welcome to Cottage Grove House.
You will find lots of savory pie and pasta recipes here as well as a few lightly sweetened cakes and crumbles. Most everything I cook is from ingredients found in their simplest, natural organic state.
“You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces – just good food from fresh ingredients.” -Julia Child
We all have rituals in our lives we love and by nature make them happen. Without thought or plan these moments naturally fall into place. It is a recurring event permanently marked on our minds daily calendar. My dearest ritual is dinnertime. Every evening we gather around our table to sit down, share a meal together and nourish ourselves. This tradition has become such a valued part of our lives. The conversation flows naturally and we are able to slow down and breathe. As a busy family of three nothing is more important than these little moments of sharing our thoughts and experiences and to hear the young man of the house (he’s 17) articulate and form his opinions while he is trying to make his way in the world.

We share the same philosophy about simplicity and making it fresh! :) Thank you for the follow as well!
Wonderful philosophy regarding cooking and ingredient selection. We signed up for our first CSA share this summer and are so looking forward to the weekly produce pickups from a nearby farm, and continue to strive toward more consistently selecting humane and suistainable protein and fish options.
Sounds great! We once belonged to a CSA and just a few days ago I was inquiring to sign up again. I think I’m encouraged to do so now. I really enjoyed getting vegetables I would not normally purchase and then looking for ways to prepare them! Enjoy your farm fresh produce! :)
Gorgeous blog… so happy to have found your patch of the internet! I’ve spent the past five minutes looking through your recipes and photographs. Such wholesome, fresh and enticing food. You’re a great writer as well :) Thanks! Following you now.

So glad I found your blog. Thanks Ruby. Tickled pink to read your About Me page. My food philosophy exactly. Other similarities? I live in an 1890’s Victorian terrace house and started my blog to share recipes with family and friends. I also have a strapping 15 year old son to boot.
Wow! Interesting similarities! I look forward to reading your blog regularly and so glad we found each others little spot in the blogosphere! :)
The first dinner I ever prepared for my family was spaghetti as well, probably at just about the same age. I am also from Washington originally – just the other side of the state. I am so glad to have found your lovely blog and am looking forward to reading more!
So interesting! I’m guessing…Spokane. I really enjoyed looking through your site and can’t wait to see more. Thank you for visiting. :)

I am lucky enough to have visited Seattle -oh, ten years ago now, wow- and I think it is a wonderful city. I’d really like to go back some day, even though it’s a bit far from Greece!
So nice to hear from you! Thank you for all your kind comments. Where are you in Greece? I have had the fortunate opportunity to visit Greece a few times. And it was years ago…just like you visiting Seattle. :)
I live in Athens. I remember you mentioned you stayed on Sifnos for a while! Such a beautiful island, one of my favourite! If only we could pop over to each other’s country more often!
True! I am very happy to have found your blog because I do love Greek food and I feel inspiration coming my way! :)
